Mastering Machine Embroidery

A 4-week series for those who own an embroidery machine & have not yet mastered the art of machine embroidery.  Or for an embroiderer who would like to learn a few new techniques with their machine.  Each week you will learn a new technique to take away for practise at home.

The various types of stabilizers used in this series are included in your class fee.

Week 1: The Basics - we take a good look at the intricacies of your machine!  Plus a full overview of the basic supplies needed for machine embroidery: thread, needles, stabilizers, machine formats.
Class project: embroidered hand towel - please bring an old hand towel.

Week 2: Embroidery on Stretch Fabrics - we focus on fusible stabilizers, embroidery placement on shirts & t-shirts and hoopless embroidery.  
Class project: embroidery design on a t-shirt - please bring a t-shirt (new or pre-worn) to class.

Class 3: Free Standing Lace - we focus on wash away stabilizers & FSL patterns.
Class project: basic FSL and 3D FSL ornament (this class will require the purchase of a FSL design - website will be given out in preceding class.

Week 4: Projects Made in the Hoop - focus will be on resources available for ITH (In The Hoop) projects, stabilizers & techniques.
Class project: zippered coin purse - all construction will be done in the hoop (this class qill require the purchase of an ITH design - website will be given out in preceding class).

We do have COVID protocol in place at the shop: we have reduced the number of seats available to ensure social distancing and request you bring a mask to wear when necessary.  The workstations and machines will be sanitized before & after each class.

If you cannot attend a class and it is 7 or more days before class, you will receive a store credit for 75% of the value of the class with a 30-day expiry date. If you cancel less than 7 days before class, you will NOT receive a refund or store credit. No credit or refund will be given for a "no show" in class regardless of reason. So please ensure that you are able to attend before signing up. East Coast Quilt Co reserves the right to cancel classes/events for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full class fee.

For most of our classes we ask you to bring a 'basic sewing kit' which usually contains: rotary cutter and/or scissors, small snipping scissors, straight pins & a pin cushion or collector, seam ripper, a spool of neutral 50 wt cotton thread, extra bobbins, notebook & pen/pencil, ruler(s), etc.).

Skill Details: This class is to learn how use your embroidery machine! The various stabilizers used in this class are included.
Requirements: Embroidery machine & embroidery arm, machine manual, hoops size 4x4 and larger, thread, embroidery needles, bobbins, applique or embroidery scissors, a hand towel and t-shirt (new or pre-used).
