Alterations 101 - Hemming

This workshop to learn the skills required to hem various types of pants. Kerri Ivany will be your instructor, and is  very excited to be offering this workshop and hopes to share her knowledge, tricks and tips with you to custom fit your garments!

Participants are required to provide their own clothing. It is recommended to bring multiple items, as not all items are alter-friendly.

Please gather a selection of pants that require hemming. This can include jeans, dress pants, and jogging pants (little to non-stretch). Very stretchy & knit garments are often more difficult to hem without the proper machinery, which is why we do not cover them in this workshop.

  • Coordinating thread for garments

  • Marking tool

  • Fabric Scissors (heavy 6” - 8” recommended)

  • Needles (80/12 & 100/16 recommended, ballpoint if you have knit garments)

  • Basic Sewing kit

Optional but helpful:

  • Paper for note taking

  • Blind hemmer foot

  • Safety Pins

  • Walking foot

  • Extra needles

  • Hump Jumper tool

  • Ruler ~12” x 2”-4”
