Intro to Rigid Heddle Weaving: Wool Scarf
The rigid heddle loom is one of the simplest and most accessible styles of looms, making it a wonderful place to begin your textile journey! In this workshop, you will learn how to turn wool yarn into a beautiful scarf on the rigid heddle loom. Your instructor, Christian, will go over choosing the proper materials for your desired project before the start of the workshop via email.
In this workshop, you will learn about selecting sett, warping techniques, threading the reed, tying on, hemming, weaving, AND finishing! Not only will you get to take home a beautiful scarf, but you will also have the foundational techniques to continue exploring weaving textiles.
Supplies needed:
Two skeins of yarn (100-115g each)*
Snips/Scissors
*Yarn should be either a worsted or DK weight and at least 70-80% wool. Once registered, participants will receive a "Yarn Buying Guide" via email.
Please note, this workshop runs twice per week for two weeks.
This workshop is suited for adults (age 15+)
WORKSHOP CANCELLATION POLICY:
If you cannot attend a workshop (either one-day or a multi-day series) and it is 7 or more days before the start date, you will receive a store credit for 75% of the value of the workshop with a 30-day expiry date. If you cancel less than 7 days before the start of the workshop, you will NOT receive a refund or store credit. No credit or refund will be given for a "no-show" in the workshop regardless of the reason. So please ensure that you can attend before signing up. EAST COAST QUILT co reserves the right to cancel workshops/events for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full workshop fee.

Instructor Bio: | Christian Dauble (they/them) is a trans-nonbinary craftsperson, scholar, and musician currently living in St. John’s, NL. Originally from Tampa Bay, Florida, they moved to Newfoundland in 2017 to pursue a master's and PhD in music and folklore, with a special interest in Scottish Highland bagpiping. After years of studying and performing as a musician, Christian became enthralled with the world of craft and fibre arts at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now a weaver, knitter, spinner, and dyer, Christian is committed to using their skills as a researcher and educator to bring crafting knowledge to the broader community. |
