
Sweet Pea Designer Cathedral Windows: Machine Embroidered Quilt

Have you been interested in machine embroidery but didn’t know where to start, or maybe you have an embroidery machine but would like to build more confidence in how to use it? Here’s a fantastic opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind quilt by “quilting as you go in the hoop” using either your embroidery machine or one of ours! By the time this course is completed, your comfort level with embroidery machines will have increased significantly and you will have a beautiful embroidered heirloom quilt.
Join us in this 8-class course to create this stunning machine-embroidered quilt from Sweet Pea. You’ll learn how to quilt the blocks and borders right in the hoop using applique and other specialized techniques. You’ll learn how to load multiple files, create two blocks at a time, and perfect the art of machine embroidery!

SYLLABUS:
Class one: Selecting fabrics, stabilizer, batting and embroidery threads. Discussing hoop and block size options. Determining the amount of materials required based on quilt size preference. Colour theory for design. Fabric weights and fusible stabilizer requirements. Cutting fabrics and how to organize. Loading files on a machine. Use of embrillance software as an option for doing two blocks at once in the hoop if desired.
Class two: Completion of blocks.
Class three: Completion of blocks
Class four: Completion of blocks
Class five: Completion of blocks
Class six: Completion of borders
Class seven: Completion of corner blocks
Class eight: Assembling the quilt
MATERIALS & SUPPLIES:
- Fabric*
- Light or no-show mesh cutaway stabilizer*
- Batting*
- Bobbin thread
- Embroidery thread is required and colours will be determined by the participant's personal preference
- Embroidery snips
- Applique scissors
- Machine needles in 80/12 & 90/14 (for making blocks) and 100/16 (for assembling quilt)
- T-pins
- Tweezers
- Paper tape
- Embroidery machine with hoops to accommodate either 4x4, 5x5, 6x6 or 7x7 blocks. Or use one of ours! We have Brother Embroidery Machines available for the duration of this workshop (in-store use only).
*Quantities required will be dependent on the size of the quilt the participant wishes to create. This will be explained in further detail in your first class!
WORKSHOP CANCELLATION POLICY:
If you cannot attend a workshop (either one-day, or a multi-day series) and it is 14 or more days before the start date, you will receive a store credit for 75% of the value of the workshop. If you cancel less than 14 days before the start of the workshop, you will NOT receive a refund or store credit. No credit or refund will be given for a "no-show" in the workshop regardless of the reason. So please ensure that you can attend before signing up. EAST COAST QUILT Co reserves the right to cancel workshops/events for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full workshop fee.
WHAT IS IN A BASIC SEWING KIT:
For most of our workshops we ask you to bring a 'basic sewing kit' which usually contains: a rotary cutter and/or scissors, small snipping scissors, straight pins & a pin cushion or collector, a seam ripper, a spool of neutral 50 wt cotton thread, extra bobbins, notebook & pen/pencil, ruler(s), etc.).
