
Serger Basics

Does the thought of using a Serger give you the shivers and make you run for the hills?? Well, stop right there! We have a solution for you! Join us for this two-session series where you will learn ALL about sergers and how to use them! Whether you own one or are in the market for one, this session will equip you with the knowledge you need to fight those fears and be serger confident!
Join Kerri for this 2-part series to learn about basic serger usage on a real-life serger! WOW! You will learn how to properly thread this unique machine, and lots of tips and tricks to make this experience as smooth as possible! At the end of the series, you will have a serged sample book for your reference. Techniques taught will include a 4-thread serger, a 3-thread serge, and a rolled hem.
Participants can choose to bring their OWN serger (and manual) to this class, or use one of ours. Please select your option when signing up!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- 4 cones of thread (4 different colours recommended)
- Tweezers
- Snips
If bringing your own serger, please bring along the following additional supplies:
- Make sure your serger is in good working condition
- User Manual
- Any accessories that came with machine
SYLLABUS
Day 1: Machine Basics
Learning the parts of your machine and its functions
Threading and finding the perfect tension for serging
Day 2: Serging!
You will create a serged sample book for your reference. Techniques taught will include a 4-thread serger, a 3-thread serge, and a rolled hem.
This class is suited for adults (age 15+)
All workshop participants are required to sign a waiver prior to the workshop. The entire waiver can be viewed at the bottom of our classes page. (East Coast Quilt Co. Workshop Waiver)
WORKSHOP CANCELLATION POLICY:
If you cannot attend a workshop (either one-day, or a multi-day series) and it is 14 or more days before the start date, you will receive a store credit for 75% of the value of the workshop. If you cancel less than 14 days before the start of the workshop, you will NOT receive a refund or store credit. No credit or refund will be given for a "no-show" in the workshop regardless of the reason. So please ensure that you can attend before signing up. EAST COAST QUILT Co reserves the right to cancel workshops/events for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full workshop fee.
WHAT IS IN A BASIC SEWING KIT:
For most of our workshops we ask you to bring a 'basic sewing kit' which usually contains: rotary cutter and/or scissors, small snipping scissors, straight pins & a pin cushion or collector, seam ripper, a spool of neutral 50 wt cotton thread, extra bobbins, notebook & pen/pencil, ruler(s), etc.).
SCENT AWARENESS
Scented products can trigger serious health reactions in folks with asthma, chronic migraines, allergies, or chemical sensitivities. Please help us maintain a healthy environment for everyone by not wearing scented products.
