Clamshell Garden Table Runner - Wool Applique by Wendy Williams



This Clamshell Garden Runner by Wendy Williams is the perfect introduction to wool applique! This creative piece finishes at approximately 21in x 50in and can be personalized to any colourful aesthetic and is a fun wool and cotton creative appliqué project! It is equitable for the confident beginner and is mostly hand stitching except for adding borders at the end.

This is a fun wool appliqué class meant for the confident beginner. No previous experience is required. Basic stitches will be taught in class.

The workshop fee includes the book, 
Wild Blooms & Colorful Creatures by Wendy Wiliams, three sheets of freezer paper, and three different green wools for the stems and leaves. If you already have a copy of the book, we will refund that portion of the fee once proof of purchase is provided on day 1 of the workshop. 

SYLLABUS FOR FIRST CLASS:
The first class will involve choosing a suitable background (bring your own or choose from several available at the shop) and creating a clamshell template to cut out a variety of both wool and cotton clamshell shapes to baste to the background. Each piece of cotton or felt should be approximately 4x6 inches. For this class, you will also need to bring a chalk or iron-out marker, a regular pencil, paper and fabric scissors, a glue stick or fabric glue, pins, basting thread and a regular hand-sewing needle. Other supplies listed below will be needed for the next classes.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • Background low volume print - 13 ½ inches by 42 ½ inches, about ? of a metre.
  • 29 or 30 GREEN prints, plains and wool for clamshells (to be discussed further in class)
  • 3 varieties of green felt for stems and leaves (included in the registration fee)
  • 3 sheets of freezer paper (included in the registration fee)
  • The pattern book Wild Blooms and Colorful Creatures by Wendy Williams (included in the registration fee)
  • Approximately 37 circular cotton motifs cut from your stash 1 -2 ½ inches in diameter. Leave about ¼ inch around each motif for trimming. You can also use circles cut from coloured felt (to be discussed further in class)
  • Wool felt squares in a variety of colours for flower backgrounds. These are available for purchase at the store (6 colors for $7.95).
  • Regular thread and needle for basting
  • Size 24 chenille needle or any needle with a large enough eye for your appliqué threads
  • A variety of Perle cotton threads or embroidery threads
  • Fabric and paper scissors, glue stick, fabric pencil, ruler, and pins
Borders will be discussed in class.  You will not need your flower motifs for the first class. If you already own the required book that portion of the fee will be refunded.


This class is suited for adults (age 15+)

WORKSHOP CANCELLATION POLICY:
If you cannot attend a workshop (either one-day, or a multi-day series) and it is 14 or more days before the start date, you will receive a store credit for 75% of the value of the workshop. If you cancel less than 14 days before the start of the workshop, you will NOT receive a refund or store credit. No credit or refund will be given for a "no-show" in the workshop regardless of the reason. So please ensure that you can attend before signing up.  EAST COAST QUILT Co reserves the right to cancel workshops/events for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full workshop fee.


WHAT IS IN A BASIC SEWING KIT: 
For most of our workshops we ask you to bring a 'basic sewing kit' which usually contains: a rotary cutter and/or scissors, small snipping scissors, straight pins & a pin cushion or collector, a seam ripper, a spool of neutral 50 wt cotton thread, extra bobbins, notebook & pen/pencil, ruler(s), etc.).

Instructor Bio: A teacher by profession, Sharon has been quilting for nearly 30 years and loves sharing all the various techniques she has learned! Sharon continues to explore new tricks of the trade by taking classes both at home and by Zoom with teachers from afar.
