Intro to Garment Construction - Wovens - Level 1

Intro to Garment Construction, Wovens, Level 1 focuses on understanding fabric types, sewing with woven materials, basic construction, and professional finishes. Students will learn how to read and understand PDF apparel patterns (the most popular option for apparel sewing!) and shape them into wearable garments. Students will also create a reference binder of techniques, terminology, and notes on their journey to custom clothing!
This pattern and technique-focused workshop runs once a week for 6 weeks.
Students will learn how to create the Craft Studio Tee by Matchy Matchy Sewing Club and the All Day Culottes by the Matchy Matchy Sewing Club! Please note, students are required to download their own copy of the PDF patterns to protect copyright. Both patterns are FREE!
In your first class, you will learn about the various types of materials (knits versus woven, natural versus synthetic, fabric types and structures), grainlines, and how to take measurements. Students will create a variety of samples, including:
-
Finished hem techniques (pinking shears, zig zag stitch, serger/overlock, french seam, double fold hem, skinny hem, stay stitch, baste, blind hem etc.)
-
Embellishments: Gathering, pleats, decorative trims & stitching, twin needle
Students will learn about:
