Quilt Block Builder: Flying Geese

If you’ve tried the flying geese block before, you may have experienced wonky sides, not so sharp points, trimming woes, and geese that aren’t quite flying straight…
Lydia has *perfected* her flying geese technique, and is enthusiastic about sharing her tips & tricks with you! Check out this elegant quilt top, made from using up her scraps:
And if you haven’t tried it before, get started on the right flight path here at EAST COAST QUILT co!
This workshop will cover the 4-at-a-time method, with respect to sewing/piecing, trimming & arrangement. Students can opt to make small or large sized blocks.
This is a technique building workshop, where participants will focus on creating one block while learning the skills. That block can later be incorporated into a pillow, placemat, tote bag, or in a quilt (final products discussed but not covered in class).
Scrap friendly! As this is meant to be a practice block, bring along scraps for sample work. High contrast is recommended for visual accuracy and scraps should be at least 5in - 10in square big.
Materials:
-
Fabric. The amount will be based on what you intend to do with the block after. You may want to purchase yardage if you plan on doing a quilt.
-
Sewing machine
-
Basic sewing kit (see below for details!)
Recommended/Optional tools:
-
Square ruler for trimming blocks (size varies based on block made)
-
Creative Grids Flying Geese Ruler (will be demo’d during the workshop. Get a 15% discount on this ruler for being a workshop participant!)

WORKSHOP CANCELLATION POLICY:
If you cannot attend a workshop (either one-day or a multi-day series) and it is 14 or more days before the start date, you will receive a store credit for 75% of the value of the workshop. If you cancel less than 14 days before the start of the workshop, you will NOT receive a refund or store credit. No credit or refund will be given for a "no-show" in the workshop regardless of the reason. So please ensure that you can attend before signing up. EAST COAST QUILT Co reserves the right to cancel workshops/events for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full workshop fee.
WHAT IS IN A BASIC SEWING KIT:
For most of our workshops we ask you to bring a 'basic sewing kit' which usually contains: rotary cutter and/or scissors, small snipping scissors, straight pins & a pin cushion or collector, seam ripper, a spool of neutral 50 wt cotton thread, extra bobbins, notebook & pen/pencil, ruler(s), etc.)
PLEASE ENSURE YOUR SEWING MACHINE IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER, and that you know how to thread and wind a bobbin. Instructors may not be familiar with all makes and models, and troubleshooting machines can hinder instructional time. RENTAL MACHINES ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
SCENT AWARENESS
Scented products can trigger serious health reactions in folks with asthma, chronic migraines, allergies, or chemical sensitivities. Please help us maintain a healthy environment for everyone by not wearing scented products.
