EPP Log Cabin Needle Book - One-day Workshop

Love English Paper Piecing (EPP) or new to EPP? This one-day workshop is for you! Join Ann to create a one-of-a-kind needle book using a 4.5" EPP log cabin block and your stash of favourite fabrics and scraps or new finds from the ECQco inventory, to create a hand-stitched fabric book for your needles or small sewing supplies. Great for your own sewing kit or a gift for a crafty-friend.



Creation of this project involves playing with fabric arrangements using a small scale log cabin design (4.5" finished square assembled with 13 strips at 5/8" wide). As an EPP project, you will create log cabin squares for the front and back of the fabric book using either a thread basting or glue basting technique (your preference) and hand sewing to assemble the individual squares. We will attach the squares together to make our EPP top, and this will be layered like a quilt with batting and backing fabric, followed by binding of the outer edges. Inner pages of the book require a small length of fabric that resists fraying (boiled wool, flannel or felt, for example) anything suitable to store your needles. Final embellishments might include a button clasp or tie, if you wish. The possibilities are endless for this charming project.



To aim to complete the project in 1 day, there is some pre-planning suggested! A detailed prep work email will be sent out 7-10 days prior to workshop start date. 

Workshop schedule:
Our morning session will focus on the assembly of two complete log cabin blocks. This means finalizing the fabric choices and arrangements for two blocks, basting the fabric to the paper pieces and assembling the pieces into blocks.

In the afternoon, we will assemble our layers (EPP top, batting, backing fabric) with a few basting stitches to secure the layers, trim the work and concentrate on binding the project so it takes a finished form by the end of the day. There may be time for more elaborate quilting during the workshop, or this may be a step completed post-workshop.

Lastly, we will discuss closure and embellishment options.

We will take a mid-morning, lunch and mid-afternoon break, or as you need. Good to rest the eyes and stretch frequently!

Experience level: Beginner or Intermediate skill with EPP.

Coordinating sewing threads (50 wt or higher)

WORKSHOP CANCELLATION POLICY:
If you cannot attend a workshop (either one-day, or a multi-day series) and it is 14 or more days before the start date, you will receive a store credit for 75% of the value of the workshop. If you cancel less than 14 days before the start of the workshop, you will NOT receive a refund or store credit. No credit or refund will be given for a "no-show" in the workshop regardless of the reason. So please ensure that you can attend before signing up.  EAST COAST QUILT Co reserves the right to cancel workshops/events for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full workshop fee.

WHAT IS IN A BASIC SEWING KIT: 
For most of our workshops we ask you to bring a 'basic sewing kit' which usually contains: rotary cutter and/or scissors, small snipping scissors, straight pins & a pin cushion or collector, seam ripper, a spool of neutral 50 wt cotton thread, extra bobbins, notebook & pen/pencil, ruler(s), etc.).
