Learn to Quilt - Level 2 - Colour and Design



A comprehensive course that will walk you through every step of quilting while constructing a throw size quilt, approximately 45? x 60?.
Over the 6 weeks you will:

  • be guided in your fabric selection & learn about colour theory
  • become familiar with using rulers & rotary cutters
  • measure, cut & piece your fabrics
  • ?sandwich? your layers & quilt them together
  • learn how to bind your quilt, resulting in a finished project!
Basic machine sewing skills are needed ie can you sew in a straight line!!?? 🙂

Classes are Tuesdays, 6 sessions. ?Daytime (1:00pm to 3:30pm) or evening (6:30pm to 9pm).

If you have a sewing machine please bring it with 1/4-inch sewing foot, a walking foot & extra bobbins. Contact us if you do not have a machine as we have a several available to use for the duration of the course.

As well a basic sewing kit is needed: rotary cutter, small snipping scissors, straight pins, safety pins, seam ripper, 50 wt cotton thread, notebook & pen/pencil.

Construction of the 45-inch x 60-inch throw quilt requires 12 fat quarters to piece the front & additional fabric for backing & binding. As well you will need batting. ?Enjoy a 15% discount on all materials & supplies purchased during the duration of your course.

This class is suited for adults (age 15+)


All workshop participants are required to sign a waiver prior to the workshop. The entire waiver can be viewed at the bottom of our classes page. (East Coast Quilt Co. Workshop Waiver)

WORKSHOP CANCELLATION POLICY:
If you cannot attend a workshop (either one-day, or a multi-day series) and it is 7 or more days before the start date, you will receive a store credit for 75% of the value of the workshop with a 30-day expiry date. If you cancel less than 7 days before the start of the workshop, you will NOT receive a refund or store credit. No credit or refund will be given for a "no-show" in the workshop regardless of the reason. So please ensure that you can attend before signing up.  EAST COAST QUILT Co reserves the right to cancel workshops/events for any reason. If this happens, you will be refunded your full workshop fee.


WHAT IS IN A BASIC SEWING KIT: 
For most of our workshops we ask you to bring a 'basic sewing kit' which usually contains: rotary cutter and/or scissors, small snipping scissors, straight pins & a pin cushion or collector, seam ripper, a spool of neutral 50 wt cotton thread, extra bobbins, notebook & pen/pencil, ruler(s), etc.).


Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: You must be reasonably familiar with a sewing machine & able to sew a straight line!
Requirements: Instructor will discuss in the first session, with opportunity to purchase at that time.
Instructor: Kerri Ivany
Instructor Bio: Textile artist, professional seamstress, and a sewing instructor. Lover of boho/hippie and vintage style in modern forms. Kerri has been practicing her craft for many years, graduated with a college diploma in textiles, and has worked various jobs since graduation (2013) within the sewing industry. (Tailoring, production sewing, teaching workshops/classes, costume) Currently working for local quilt shop East Coast Quilt co., Kerri loves to engage, educate, and inspire creativity in others. Sharing her experience, product & fabric knowledge, and teaching various quilting classes with ECQco. I love to create.
