This is our FIRST monthly newsletter! WOOHOO! We are so excited to share with you our upcoming classes, events, and new products here in the store and online for the month of March (and beyond!).  Our newsletter will be sent out once a month so please take a moment to look it over and share with your friends. 

If you are wondering why you are receiving this newsletter and how we got your email, it's because you have previously signed up at one of our stores, The Fabric Merchant or Sew Many Stitches, before we joined as East Coast Quilt co! Over the past few months we have been working diligently to combine all our customer information together under ECQco. However! We are absolutely in love with this new collection. This playful and colorful fabric line is exactly what we need to keep us going through the cold of winter. We have 19 bolts of this playful fabric along with pre-packaged fat quarter and fat eight bundles, fabric jelly rolls, and adorable buttons. Included in this line are four brand new doll fabrics and a Cat Doll Kit! Come check out the handmade sample of the cat here at the shop!

- - - Maker's Social - New! - - -


Join us every Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 pm for a cup of tea and to meet other makers in the community! Bring in your WIP (work in progress) projects, get some feedback or advice, and meet new craftspeople and makers! Snacks and refreshments will be provided. We will be housed in one of our two classroom spaces which consist of ironing boards, table space, and a light table. Each session will be hosted by one of our very talented staff members & instructors or local makers in the community.

TWO PART SERIES: March 1st from 10 to 12, and March 7th from 10 to 4
Cost: $70.00 or $55 if you already own the pattern.

The Jelly Roll Rug is all the rage! Make it seasonal, make it fancy, pick your fabrics to match your decor. We have the pattern, precut batting strips and precut fabric in stock, or bring your own - all purchases for the classes are 15% off! Pattern required; please purchase with your workshop fee if you do not have it or bring yours with you.  

Day 1 of the workshop will get you started on making your looonnnngggggg Jelly Roll strip which you will take away to complete for your next session; Day 2 gives you direction & ample time to tackle the tricky construction of the rug.

It's time for another round of Learn To Quilt for Beginners! This super popular and fun class will be taught this time around by one of our amazing owners, Queen of the Long Arm, Debbie Northover!

This six week session is a comprehensive course that will walk you through every step of quilting while constructing a throw size quilt approximately 45" x 60" (see class sample below). You will be guided in your fabric selection, color theory, technical assembly, and become familiar with using rulers & rotary cutters. Basic machine sewing skills are needed; can ya sew a straight line? If so, yer good!

If you have a sewing machine please bring it with a 1/4-inch sewing foot, a walking foot & extra bobbins. A basic "sewing kit" is required; please see our website for a detailed list. Don't have a machine? No problem! We have many wonderful Brother machines for you to use free of charge! Give us a call at the shop to reserve one.

Thursday Daytime: 1 pm to 3:30 pm
Thursday Evening: 7 pm to 9:30 pm
SIX SESSIONS: March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, and April 7th. 
Cost: $165.00

This very popular class, taught by our very own Donna Mactavish, is a wonderful way to get started in your sewing adventures. This series takes you from complete amateur to confident beginner! Not only will you learn sewing machine basics, you will create various projects including a table runner, apron, and a tote bag.

If you have a sewing machine please bring it; otherwise we provide machines for you to use for the duration of the course free of charge - contact the shop to reserve one!

Has the thought of spring cleaning given you organizational anxiety? Fear no more friends. In this class, you will learn how to make adorable customizable fabric baskets for ALL your organizing needs. Need a space for your craft supplies, photos, and/or magazines? Make this basket! They are a great way to show off some of your favorite fabrics. Our in store sample is made with fabric from the new Tilda collection. Your instructor, Lindsay Nichols, will how you how to apply interfacing and construct these containers with a sewing machine.

Fabric and notions must be purchased separately but enjoy a 15% off discount at the shop.

- - - Learn to Quilt Level 2: Susannah! - - -

Tuesday Daytime from 1 to 3:30 pm OR Tuesday Evenings from 7 to 9:30 pm.
SIX SESSIONS: March 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, and April 7th & 28th 
Cost: $175.00
Skill Level: Confident Sewer

Ready for the next level in your beginner quilting journey? This is it! This six week class will guide you through the construction of a quilt, approximately 67" x 76" using the 'Susannah' pattern. Instruction will include an introduction to fussy cutting, alternate block placement, and more intricate block and quilt construction. Included in this class is the BLOCK Magazine Book; Fall 2016 Vol 3 Issue 5.

We recommend that you bring your own sewing machine but if you are unable to do so a machine can be provided. Notify ECQco if you require a machine or if you have further questions about the class. This wonderful class will be taught by the ever talented Kerri Ivany!

- - - Handmade Style: Market Tote - - -

TWO SESSIONS: March 14th & 15th from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm
Cost: $71.50, or $40.00 if you already own the Handmade Style Book
Skill Level: Beginner

Can you tell that we LOVE projects from the Handmade Style book by Anna Graham? This quilted tote is perfect for a trip to the St. John's Farmers Market or a weekend getaway to Bonavista!

 Scheduled on 2 consecutive days, 3 hours per session, this is a fun, informative workshop which you'll come away with an attractive new tote bag!
Learn how to piece fabric into a thick, sturdy quilted bag. This project will allow you practice choosing color combinations, and will give you experience sewing an oval base into a bag. Taught by the talented Sarah Wilson!

- - - Sew A Zippered Pouch - - -

March 16th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm
Skill Level: Beginner
Cost: $40.00

Students in the Zippered Pouch class will learn how to make a lined pouch with a zipper closure.  Choose between box corners or flat corners to finish your bag.  These are addictive to make and this workshop will leave you wanting to sew more of them! Zippered Pouches make great gifts, are versatile, and functional. This class will give you the skills to create other forms of bags, purses, and totes!

This is a beginner class, but it is suggested that you have some experience on a sewing machine. This class will be lead by Sarah Wilson.

March 18th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Cost: $150.00

We have a few spots available with Debbie for our Long Arm Certification Course on March 18th! This fills up extremely fast, so make sure to give us a call or register online ASAP. We currently have 4 spots available.

- - - Learn to Sew with Knits: Make a Classic T-shirt! - - -

March 21st from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Skill Level: Confident Beginner
Cost: $40.00

The trend in apparel sewing is to download a PDF & piece together your pattern. In the first part of this workshop, our instructor Lindsay will take you through the process of purchasing, downloading, printing & piecing your pattern. Then, you'll be guided through the construction of the classic Union St. tee.  The Union St. Tee is a great wardrobe basic to have in your pattern stash.  It comes with the option for a v-neck, scoop neck, or crew neck, and has four sleeve lengths included – short, elbow, 3/4, and long.  There is an optional chest pocket and a separate front piece that has been adjusted for a full bust. 

This pattern is easy enough for a confident beginner to complete, using either a sewing machine or serger.

March 29th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Skill Level: Confident Beginner; must have some sewing experience

Yet another wonderful project brought to you by Handmade Style! 
The Gingham Tote is your go-to day bag complete with zippered compartments and a magnetic closure at the top. Learn how to install different pieces of hardware for an adjustable shoulder strap, and have fun picking coordinating colors for your bag! Your instructor for this class is Lindsay Nichols!

Fabric and notions must be purchased separately but will be sold at 15% off at the East Coast Quilt Co. The instructor will email students material requirements in advance of the class.
